Understanding Hot and Cold
📚 Key Concepts
🔹 Can We Trust Our Sense of Touch?
Our sense of touch can be misleading when determining temperature. Here’s why:
Simple Experiment:
- Take three containers: warm water, normal water, cold water
- Put right hand in warm water, left hand in cold water for 2 minutes
- Then put both hands in normal water simultaneously
- Result: Right hand feels cool, left hand feels warm (same water!)
Conclusion: We cannot always rely on our sense of touch to determine temperature accurately.

🔹 What is Temperature?
Temperature is a reliable measure of hotness or coldness of a body.
Key Points:
- Hotter bodies have higher temperatures
- Colder bodies have lower temperatures
- Temperature difference tells us comparative hotness
- Measured using a thermometer
