Adaptation and Habitat
📚 Key Concepts
🔹 What is Adaptation?
Adaptation refers to special features that help plants and animals survive in their particular environment.

🔹 What is Habitat?
Habitat is the place where plants and animals naturally live and find everything they need for survival – food, water, air, shelter, and suitable conditions for reproduction.

🔹 Examples of Adaptations
Desert Adaptations:
- Cactus: Thick, fleshy stems store water; spines reduce water loss
- Camel: Stores fat in hump; wide hooves for walking on sand; can survive without water for days
Mountain Adaptations:
- Deodar trees: Conical shape helps snow slide off
- Mountain goats: Strong legs and hooves for climbing rocks
Aquatic Adaptations:
- Fish: Streamlined body and fins for swimming
- Whales: Blowholes for breathing; thick layer of fat for warmth
🔹 Types of Habitats
1. Terrestrial Habitats (Land):
- Forests, Deserts, Grasslands, Mountains
2. Aquatic Habitats (Water):
- Ponds, Lakes, Rivers, Oceans
