Understanding Hot and Cold

🔹 Can We Trust Our Sense of Touch?

Our sense of touch can be misleading when determining temperature. Here’s why:

  • Take three containers: warm water, normal water, cold water
  • Put right hand in warm water, left hand in cold water for 2 minutes
  • Then put both hands in normal water simultaneously
  • Result: Right hand feels cool, left hand feels warm (same water!)

Conclusion: We cannot always rely on our sense of touch to determine temperature accurately.

  • Hotter bodies have higher temperatures
  • Colder bodies have lower temperatures
