Respiration
🌟Introduction:-
We know you think respiration and breathing are same. It’s the biggest misconception among the students, that breathing and respiration are same, but no it’s not. Respiration is the processes via which cells of an organism obtains energy by breakdown of food, and this process (respiration) involves breathing (inhale or exhale) of air.
📚Key concept:-
🔷️The process in which the cells of organism obtain energy by combining oxygen and glucose is called Respiration. It involves breathing.
There are two types of breathing:-
| Aerobic respiration | Anaerobic respiration |
| It is the process of producing energy in the presence of oxygen. | It is the process of producing energy in the absence of oxygen. |
| Ex:- In mitochondrial cells | Ex:- in leg muscles |
Glucose
- Glucose (C6H12O6) when digested it converts into pyruvate + energy.
- in absence of oxygen these pyruvate convert into ethanol + carbon dioxide + energy
- In lack of oxygen these pyruvate converts into lactic acid + energy
- In presence of oxygen these pyruvate converts into water + carbon dioxide + energy.
- The energy released during respiration is used to synthesis ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) also called energy currency of life.
