Comparison between Nervous system vs Endocrine system
Nervous system vs Endocrine system
| Feature | Nervous system | Endocrine system |
| Type of control | Electrical impulse through neurons. | Chemical response through hormones. |
| Speed of response | Very fast | Slower |
| Duration of response | Short lived | Long lasting |
| Mode of transmission | Through nerves | Through blood stream |
| Target area | Specific and localized(like muscle) | Widespread cab target multiple organ. |
| Nature of response | Quick and immediate | Gradual and sustained |
| Example | Reflex action, movement. | Growth, sugar regulation, metabolism |
| Main organ involved | Brain, spinal cord, nerves | Endocrine glands, ex:- pituitary gland. |
Why both system are needed:-
- Different speeds:-
- The nervous system gives Quick instant response. Ex: Reflex
- The Endocrine system gives slow but Long lasting response. Ex: Growth
- Different functions :-
- Nervous system controls movement, reflex, and senses.
- Endocrine system controls metabolism, growth, Reproduction and mood
- Balance and coordination:-
- Together the keep body in Balance [homeostasis]
- Ex: Brain (nervous) tells adrenal gland (endocrine) to release Adrenaline in stress.
- Short term and long term:-
- Nervous system handles emergency and short term actions
- Endocrine manages long term process like growth and development.
- Support each other:-
- Some organs like hypothalamus link both systems and helps the to work together for better control.
