🌟Introduction:-

Do you know how are we able to look just like our parents, or why puppies looks similar to dogs why not cats or why kittens looks like cat and why not dogs, this resemblance of characteristics can be studied in this chapter. So lets deep dive into the world of Heredity and Evolution.

📚Key concept:-

Heredity is the transfer of traits (character) from parents to their off springs. It is controlled by genes which are present on chromosome. Discovered by Gregor Mendel also known as Father of genetics.

Important Terms:-

1.)Character/ Trait:-

Character:- Character is considered as a feature of any organism. Example: eye colour meanwhile Trait is a form of Character which h are inherited from parents via genes. Example eye colureà black, brown, blue etc.

2.)Variation:-

It’s the difference among individuals of the same species. Caused by:-

  1. Genetic recombination
  2. Mutation
  3. Environmental factor

Types:-

Inherited variation:- from parents

Acquired variation:- from environmental factors or lifestyle

Accumulation of Variation:-

  • Variation get passed on during reproduction.
  • Over generation, accumulated variation can be lead to evolution.

Importance/advantage of variation:-

  • Helps in adaptation and survival of species.
  • Acts as raw material for natural selection.
